Steve Wold aka Seasick Steve is a self-described “song and dance man”, setting the UK festival circuit alive with his ultra-raw blues shtick, and wowing the music press – MOJO magazine awarded him “Best Breakthrough Act”.

Steve’s music is deeply immersed in Mississippi blues, and peppered with his life experiences as little more than a hobo after leaving at thirteen to escape abuse, then living in a claimed 56 countries before settling in Norway of all places, with his wife of 25 years. After suffering a heart attack Steve has turned his hand to establishing his career, and has appeared on Later with Jools Holland, and at this year’s Glastonbury.

Seasick Steve’s band is made up of the Mississippi Drum Machine [yeah – a box for stomping his foot on], the three String Tranz Wonder (a crappy old guitar with three strings and a duct-taped pickup), and the One Stringed Diddley Bow – played with a screwdriver. Like all great Bluesmen Seasick Steve has a story behind each instrument; tales of loyalty, loss, double-crossing ripoff merchants, gigging with Lightnin’ Hopkins – all the ingredients are there. Raw and fabulous – check it out on our Weekday Breakfasts.
