Hamilton Indie popsters Dynamo Go release their second EP this Friday 4th of July at Ward Lane. Chief Songwriter Gian Perrone shared some of his insights with us.
MM: Could you describe Dynamo Go’s sound using onomatopoeia?
GP: “Jangle”, “screeeeeetch”, “pop!”, “meow”.
Dynamo Go has had a lot of members come and go over the years, who has been your favourite?
Am I really expected to answer questions about Dynamo Go’s sex life?
How many more additions must come and go before Dynamo Go becomes Gian Perrone and his guitar?
I think I’ll kick myself out next and replace myself with a member of the Trons.
In light of the recent hype over Hamilton’s world famous robot band, what sort of things would ‘The Trons’ turn coffee into?
Machines exist to improve the lives of people. So I think they would turn coffee into more coffee.
What fresh new Hamilton or New Zealand acts are pushing your buttons at the moment?
I’m still loving Lindon Puffin’s album. Apparently he’s doing a new one soon. The Shrugs album is awesome. I like that new Bearcat song, although I couldn’t tell you exactly what it sounds like. I think it’s about Pandas.
Do you think your faith (or lack of) affects your music?
Oh, sure. See, I can sing pop songs about dirty sex and they don’t have to end in tragedy. I’m looking in your direction, Brooke.
How much of your lyrics are direct references to the bible?
All of them. For example, “the” — Luke 1:51.
Creationism or 7 Day Theory? Which one is true?
The depends what the definition of the word “is” is. I’m most taken with “Creation science”. It’s a school of thought where they provide provably unscientific explanations for the creation of the universe. Personally, I think the Flying Spaghetti Monster did it, using his noodly appendage.
Which Death Metal band would you most like to hear cover one of your songs?
I think Circle of Dead Children would really do the songs justice.
